AdvancedMD API integration guide: Connect APIs, FHIR and the partner marketplace
- Access model
- Partner program (licence + certification)
- Developer program
- AdvancedMD Developer Program
- Certified FHIR access
- Read-only FHIR R4 (separate portal)
- Scheduling write
- Connect APIs (docs behind developer agreement)
The short answer
AdvancedMD is partner-gated. You request a developer licence, sign its developer agreement, build against its Connect APIs in a sandbox, demonstrate the integration to AdvancedMD's interoperability team, and only then get production credentials. Its certified FHIR API runs on a separate portal and is read-only.
How access works
- Request a developer licence through AdvancedMD's API connection request page, describing your product and the provider types you serve.
- Sign the developer agreement. Full API documentation sits behind it, and AdvancedMD states licensing and support fees apply (amounts aren't published).
- Build in the sandbox, then demo the integration to AdvancedMD's interoperability team.
- Get production credentials, including a unique application name.
- Marketplace listing is a separate step that needs an active developer licence and a certified integration.
What the APIs cover
| Job | Path on AdvancedMD |
|---|---|
| Read clinical data for certified use cases | FHIR R4 API, read-only (GET only) |
| Scheduling, PM, billing, charting actions | Connect APIs, which AdvancedMD describes as covering most of what the UI does |
| Bulk reporting | Read-only data access and data-warehouse offerings mentioned on its request page |
Because the Connect documentation is under agreement, we don't publish its endpoints. Confirm scheduling write against the docs you receive before you commit a date.
Our take
AdvancedMD rewards teams that plan the paperwork. The code is rarely the long pole; the licence, agreement and certification demo are. Start them the same week you start building, and have the practice ready to enable your integration on its side.
FAQ
Does AdvancedMD have an open API?
Not an open one. Its Connect APIs require a developer licence and agreement. Its certified FHIR API has its own developer portal and is read-only.
Can I list my app in the AdvancedMD marketplace?
Yes, after you hold an active developer licence and a certified integration, through AdvancedMD's partner marketplace request.
Is the AdvancedMD FHIR API enough to book appointments?
No. The FHIR API is read-only. Write actions go through the Connect APIs.
