The short answer
MEDITECH is a hospital EHR with no open self-serve portal. You apply to Greenfield Workspace, a test environment against a real MEDITECH system, and production happens when an Expanse customer adopts your app. Vendors with live customer integrations can apply to the MEDITECH Alliance.
The flavors to tell apart
- Expanse. MEDITECH's current web-based platform (acute, ambulatory, patient portal). This is where the FHIR APIs live.
- Legacy platforms (MAGIC, Client/Server, 6.x). Older, proprietary, and still running in some hospitals. Confirm the platform first.
- Hosting. On-site, or MEDITECH as a Service (MaaS), MEDITECH's hosted option.
How access works
- Apply to Greenfield Workspace through MEDITECH's intake form. You get a test environment with interactive API documentation.
- Win an Expanse customer. Production use requires a MEDITECH customer to adopt and enable your app.
- MEDITECH Alliance is for vendors with existing customer integrations. MEDITECH describes it as selective, with tiers ranging from MEDITECH reselling your product to customers licensing directly from you.
MEDITECH doesn't publish fees for either program on the pages we read.
What the APIs cover
| Job | Path on MEDITECH Expanse |
|---|---|
| Clinical read | US Core FHIR R4 (patient-authorized, USCDI) |
| Online scheduling | FHIR scheduling APIs, user and patient workflows, Expanse customers only |
| Partner directory | MEDITECH Alliance Solutions |
Our take
MEDITECH sells to hospitals, so expect a hospital sales cycle: a sponsoring customer, its IT team, and Greenfield as your test bed. The scheduling APIs are a real advantage for patient-access products. Get your first hospital lined up before you invest in the build.
