Nextech API integration guide: Select API, FHIR and connection requests
- Access model
- Vendor-gated connection request
- Developer program
- Nextech Developers Portal
- Certified FHIR access
- FHIR R4 (STU3 still supported)
- Scheduling write
- Limited (appointment confirmation documented)
The short answer
Nextech is vendor-gated. You submit a connection request through its developers portal, Nextech screens your app, and a Nextech representative issues partner API credentials. Its published getting-started material describes broad read access (demographics, appointments, clinical data) with very narrow write access.
The flavors to tell apart
Nextech sells several specialty lines: Select / NexCloud (dermatology, ophthalmology, plastics, orthopedics, med spa), IntelleChartPRO, Practice+ for practice management, and SRSPro for orthopedics. Confirm which one each customer runs, since the APIs and base URLs differ.
How access works
- Submit the connection request on Nextech's developers portal.
- Nextech screens your app's security.
- Credentials come from a Nextech representative. Use is governed by Nextech's API terms, which state no connection fees for the APIs required under certified-EHR rules at this time.
- Patient apps connect through the patient portal login after Nextech's screen.
What the APIs cover
| Job | Path on Nextech |
|---|---|
| Read patients, appointments, clinical data | Partner API, FHIR R4 (R4 recommended for new projects) |
| Write a clinical note | Not in the published API |
| Scheduling write | Nextech's getting-started document lists only an appointment-confirmed flag; confirm current scope with Nextech |
| Volume | That document states a daily call cap per client. Confirm the current limit |
Our take
Scope Nextech as read-first. If your product needs to book or file into the chart, get the current write scope from Nextech in writing before you commit, and plan the fallback.
