Practice Fusion API integration guide: PDS partner registration and FHIR
- Access model
- Open registration + practice control
- Developer program
- Practice Fusion PDS API
- Certified FHIR access
- FHIR R4 (US Core 6.1.0), read-only
- Scheduling write
- Not published
The short answer
Practice Fusion, owned by Veradigm, offers a read-only FHIR R4 API through its Patient Data Sharing (PDS) partner registration. Practices control which apps can see their data. There's no published write or scheduling API for Practice Fusion; Veradigm's read-write Unity API belongs to its other EHR family.
How access works
- Complete the PDS API partner registration and accept the terms.
- After approval, log in to the PDS portal and submit your app: type (patient, provider or system/bulk), JWKS URL, redirect and launch URLs, scopes.
- Receive credentials. Practices then allow or deny your app in the EHR.
What the APIs cover
| Job | Path on Practice Fusion |
|---|---|
| Certified clinical read | FHIR R4, US Core 6.1.0 / USCDI v3, SMART App Launch v2 |
| Bulk export | FHIR Bulk Data Access |
| Write-back, scheduling | Not available through the FHIR API |
What it costs
Practice Fusion's published fee schedule states no API fees for development, deployment or usage at this time, and a no-cost FHIR licence (schedule last updated May 2024, accessed 11 Oct 2026; may change with notice).
Our take
Practice Fusion is cheap to read from and closed to write into. If your product needs to book or file, plan a practice-authorized alternative that respects Veradigm's terms, or prioritize EMRs with documented write.
