Veradigm (Allscripts) API integration guide: Connect, FHIR and Unity
- Access model
- Free open tier + paid integrator tiers
- Developer program
- Veradigm Connect (Open and Integrator)
- Certified FHIR access
- FHIR R4 (read-only)
- Scheduling write
- Via the Unity API (Integrator)
The short answer
Veradigm splits access in two. Open membership is free: anyone can build on its read-only FHIR APIs. Integrator membership is paid and unlocks the proprietary Unity API, which reads and writes, including appointments in Veradigm Practice Management. Unity integrations are tested and certified by Veradigm before they reach clients.
The flavors to tell apart
| Flavor | What it means for an integration |
|---|---|
| Veradigm EHR (formerly Allscripts Professional) | FHIR R4 through Veradigm Connect. SSO for FHIR R4 needs version 24.5 or later. |
| Veradigm Practice Management | Unity API required to read or write demographics, appointments and financial data. |
| Practice Fusion | Veradigm-owned, with its own partner portal. See our Practice Fusion guide. |
| Altera Digital Health (TouchWorks, Sunrise, Paragon) | Former Allscripts products now under Altera. Confirm which developer path applies. |
How access works
- Create a developer account on Veradigm Connect and accept the user agreement.
- Register your app (patient, provider or system), with JWKS and redirect URLs, purpose of use and scopes.
- Test in the sandbox, then request production. Veradigm reviews and approves.
- Each client activates your app in its own License Management Portal. Developers can't license apps for clients.
- For Unity: join an Integrator tier, build, and pass Veradigm's certification. Certified apps are published on App Expo.
What the APIs cover
| Job | Path on Veradigm |
|---|---|
| Clinical read | FHIR R4 (US Core / USCDI), SMART App Launch 2.0, read-only |
| Write-back, appointments, PM data | Unity API (Integrator membership) |
| Marketplace | App Expo, for certified Integrator apps |

Our take
Use Open for reads. If your product needs to write, price an Integrator tier and Veradigm's certification cycle into the plan; Veradigm doesn't publish tier prices on its developer pages. Also confirm whether your customer is on Veradigm or on a former Allscripts product now owned by Altera.
